hearts on the earth

We love a good story. If it's a love story, so much the better. I had picked up "Monday hearts for Madelene", and was inspired, and wished to share it around. So during our annual community sharing week in Aegina, I decided to make an art workshop out of it. It was April, it was warm, the garden was too inviting to have the workshop indoors. I was expecting adults, it was to be an adult-oriented workshop, but it was children who came: 12 girls of all ages and a little boy who was somebody's brother. One adult graced us with her presence, a sculptor, who was spending the day in the Old House.

"Monday Hearts" is a love story between two women, a love which has triumphed over death and keeps producing lovely art over the years. I had the book with me, I told them the story, showed them the pictures, (their faces lit up) and said that love is made up of all the materials of the Universe... So we would all go around the garden and gather our materials - anything that we like, anything that inspires us - and make hearts. These were some of the hearts the children made.
